Nature of Work


Working on pitched, sloped, and all types of roofs.  Handling roofing materials, kettles, tankers, torches, Bitumen products and waterproofing systems.

APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS

DRUG TESTING MAY BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT

Training Duration


Minimum of three (3) years of instruction classes in all subjects related to the trade for a total of 432 hours or 144 hours during each year of the term of apprenticeship.  3600 total hours of on-the-job training.  OSHA Safety and Fall Protection training as well as First Aid/CPR certification.

Working Conditions


Working outdoors in temperatures in excess of 100 degrees.  Willing to work at extreme elevations and confined spaces.  Working with fiberglass insulation.  Working hazardous chemicals and substances that over long term exposure may cause bodily harm.  Work from ladders, scaffolds, swing stages and lifts.

Roofers & Waterproofers

1.  Age                          18 years of age.


2.  Interview              Will be evaluated based on previous experience.

                                     

3.  Math Test             Must pass basic math test.


4.  Education             High school diploma or G.E.D. or H.S.E. equivalent within 1 year

                                      after being indentured as an apprentice.


5.  Health                    Physically fit for the work of the trade.


6.  Eligibility              Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Physical Demands


Medium to hard work: physically able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.  Should be physically able to perform the work of the trade.  This includes being able to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, reach, feel and see.

Benefits Under Union


Starting wages are 60% of Journeyperson wages. Benefits include Health and Welfare (medical, dental, vision)  and  Pension Fund.

Base Wage for Trained Workers


Commercial Journeyman - $25.90 per hour

Commercial Apprentice - $14.25 per hour
